Nigerian Banks Set For Biometric Registration Of Customers.

Nigerian banks will on Monday commence the biometric registration of their customers in a bid to issue a uniform and unique identification number called Bank Verification Number (BVN) to every bank customer across the country.
This comes after the industry completed its three month pilot phase of the project on Monday this week which saw 7,000 BVNs issued by 21 banks headquarters across 44 bank sites and the NIBSS to existing internal bank customers.
The launch will kick off in 1000 bank branches located in Lagos only which will later spread to the rest of the country. VN project deployment is in alignment with the phased approach adopted in executing the three-tiered ‘know your customer and the cashless policy of the CBN.
The initiative will include capturing of an individual’s basic biometric data information which includes the facial image, the 10 fingerprints as well as other unique features of the individual to facilitate security.
