Twenty years ago, Janice Wolf set up an animal refuge to help pets and wildlife in need of medical care. She had no idea what it would eventually become.

The operation started off small. Janice, a trained vet technician, took in a couple of animals here and there and helped them heal.
But soon, she noticed that her guests were becoming more numerous… and more diverse.
Before she knew it, Janice was housing up to sixty animals at one time.
Keeping that many animals in one location could prove to be disastrous, but incredibly, it was just the opposite.
The residents, both permanent and temporary, began to form extremely strong interspecies friendships with each other.
Regardless of whether they had hooves or paws…
…feathers or fur…
…the animals that would normally never be seen together in the wild were drawn together, becoming the best of friends.
Among Janice’s permanent residents are Cheesecake the capybara and Crouton the African Sulcata tortoise.
Many of the new arrivals find Crouton to be pretty fascinating.
Brad the Meishan piglet is one of the newer additions, but Butterbean the bull terrier was quick to welcome him with a wagging tail.
Despite the fact that Rocky Ridge Refuge is a one-woman operation, all of the animals are happy and healthy.
There’s no doubt that these animals of all shapes and sizes are incredibly grateful to Janice.
The hard work and dedication of one woman with a huge heart has not only saved these animals’ lives, but also brought them together as a very unique family.
They may have had a rough start in life, but their unconditional love has helped them heal in a way that no medicine or bandage ever could.
Whether they’re sharing an afternoon snack…
…or just enjoying some snuggle time…
…these creatures both big and small have formed friendships that will last a lifetime.
